Dr. Tarrants

Alyssa Tarrants, DVM

Dr. Alyssa Tarrants is the owner of Eastman Animal hospital and a native of Midland County. She has been a horse enthusiast since early childhood. She grew up riding and showing her horses in many disciplines including hunt seat, western pleasure, eventing and dressage.

In 2008 Dr. Tarrants graduated with honors from Franciscan University, majoring in Biology. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Purdue University in 2013. During her education, she traveled to different clinics across the country to study under different veternariains including the lead veterinarian for the US Eventing Team.

Dr. Tarrants shares her time between Eastman Animal Hospital and her All Equine Clinic equine ambulatory practice. As a veterinarian, she brings the latest research and knowledge to both clinic’s teams to continue to provide outstanding care for your companions. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and riding her horses.


Janet Sherwood, DVM

Dr. Janet Sherwood received her Undergraduate at the University of Maryland with a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida. She has a special interest in Dermatology. Dr. Sherwood also has a deep love of Shetland Sheepdogs, which she owns and runs in agility training and showing. She also enjoys spending time traveling and going on walking vacations with friends.


Robert F. Wenzel, DVM

Dr. Robert Wenzel received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University. He is one of our surgeons, and shares his time between our hospital and Gladwin Veterinarian Clinic. He is also an Adjunct Professor for MSU College of Veterinarian Medicine and Large Animal Ambulatory. He is well-versed in wellness care, nutrition, behavior training, internal medicine, soft tissue surgery and orthopedic surgery.


Kathy Betke, RVT

Kathi graduated from Yuba College in Marysville, California, in 1986 with an Associate Degree in Animal Health Technology. She came to Michigan in 1993 where she worked at West Branch Veterinary Services as a Mixed Animal Technician. Kathi has been working with us since 2012, wherein she has become a vital part in our daily functions with the doctors and instrumental in maintaining the clinic and inventory. When she is not at work, she enjoys horseback riding, camping, hiking, painting, drawing and hanging out with her variety animals. She is also beginning agility with two of her dogs.


Karey Heinitz, LVT

Karey is a transfer student from Michigan State and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Technology from St. Petersburg College of Veterinary Medicine in the Spring of 2015, and was in the 10% of her class. She is an energetic and intelligent addition to our staff. She especially enjoys the laboratory side of things, maintaining equipment, OSHA standards and Clinical Pathology. Karey currently lives in Midland with her husband Justin, Kooper the dog and Bentley the cat.


Julie Linton

Julie is the newest member of the Eastman Animal Hospital. She and her husband Alex grew up in Sanford michigan and have two sons Evan and Ethan. When not at the hospital or a sporting event cheering on one of her boys Julie enjoys hiking the beautiful Michigan forests with her aussie sapphire and her black lab Ammo. She also enjoys rabbit hunting running/training and competing in field trials with her beagles.


Dawn Donahue, Veterinary Assistant

Dawn attended ITT Technical Institute for Graphic Design, but has always had a deep interest in animal health. Dawn assists the doctors in the clinic, and works on the social media and advertising for the clinic. She is also an active member of her church, New Life Vineyard Church and volunteers with the Great Lakes Bay Animal Society rescue group. She lives in the Bullock Creek area with her husband, children, Golden Retrievers and cats; and, enjoys anything artistic or involving nature.


Chris Tarrants, EQDT

Chris is a native of Missouri. He is a graduate and now instructor at the Midwest Equine Dental Academy. When not working or teaching, he is an avid outdoorsman, who loves to hunt and fish.


Janea Little, Receptionist

Janea is the friendly, welcoming face you encounter more times than not when entering our hospital! She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism / Ecology from Southern Illinois University, along with a Master’s Degree in Biology from Western Michigan University. When Janea is not at Eastman, she enjoys birding, flowers and walking as a naturalist for her nature consulting firm Littles Touch of Nature. She also enjoys spending time with her pack of dogs.


Debbie Miller, Receptionist

Debbie is another of our professional, friendly and smiling faces you may see as you enter our hospital. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Art Education from the University of Evansville. Debbie has over 17 years of experience as a veterinary receptionist. She shares her time between our clinic and being an instructor at the TNT Dog Center in Midland. During her free time, she enjoys training and showing her dogs in agility ( competing at the GSD National and AKC National Agility Championship ) and in obedience. She also enjoys teaching and training dogs at TNT and spending time with her family.
